Basic PR – 24 Control Baton Operator (One Day) Course
The intent of this course is to teach the student basic individual tactics and the use of the PR-24 control baton in close range, defensive scenarios. This one day course will provide the basics of the side handle baton, the advantages of this design in application of pain compliance and prisoner control techniques as well as the ability to block attacks with other impact weapons.
The curriculum will include, but is not limited to:
Subjects Covered:
- The use force continuum, and the appropriate use of intermediate weapons.
- History of the side handle baton.
- Methods of carry, carry techniques, ready positions and preferred stances.
- Strikes, blocks, spins, jabs and chops.
- Basic restraint skills for non-compliant subjects.
- Advantages of the side handle baton over other impact tools.
- Human physiology, nerve centers, muscle disruption techniques.
- Handcuffing techniques, and application of flexible control devices.
- Physical conditioning and preparation.
- Realistic scenarios, role playing and effective methods of contact.
- The legalities of deadly force as it pertains to impact weapons.
Required Equipment:
Side handle baton (expandable), belt holder, mouth guard and appropriate clothing.
Prerequisites:
You must be certified to carry an expandable baton, you must have completed P.S.B. Level three training.
