A Home Defense Handgun

The intent of this course is to teach the students a practical approach to defending their home using the handgun of choice as their primary defensive tool. The course will include instruction in the types of scenarios and situations encountered in close quarters and the use of cover.

Handgun of choice (revolver or semi-automatic) 200 rounds of range ammo and 25 rounds of your choice for defensive use.

Advanced Defensive Handgun (One Day)

An 8 hour classroom and range program that is designed to provide the shooter/student with the
additional skills required to survive a deadly confrontation.

Students will develop skills in threat assessment, rapid deployment of handgun, use of cover and
concealment and advanced shooting techniques. Each student will complete numerous live fire drills
and exercises to develop the skill levels required survive a deadly encounter with pistol or knife.
Shooters will receive practical instruction in conditions of carry, ready positions, carry techniques and
deployment.

Required Equipment:
Heavy duty handgun and 3 magazines with magazine holders, belt, holster and 250 rounds of ammunition.
Appropriate range attire (long pants, shoes or boots, shirt) no shorts or open toe shoes. Appropriate
hearing and eye protection.

Prerequisites:
You must be very familiar with the operation of your equipment and all accessories. This is not a class
for beginners.

Basic Firearms Maintenance

PREREQUSITES:
Attendee is expected to be experienced and familiar with their firearm. This is a class for beginners to learn how to properly clean and maintain the firearm. He/she must have all necessary equipment, to included:
*Firearm
*Cleaning Tools (may be obtained at the range)
*Solvents (may be obtained at the range)
*25 rounds of appropriate caliber ammunition for test fire (if desired)

GOAL:
To provide training in the required techniques to disassemble and re-assemble the pistol or rifle.
The following subjects will be covered:
*Basic firearms safety
*Proper levels of maintenance required for the firearm
*Applicable solvents and lubricants
*Rust prevention or removal
*Specific disassembly instructions for the weapon
*How to check for unusual wear and tear
*Specific re-assembly
*How to safely accomplish function checks on the weapon
*Application of trouble shooting problems with weapon

Defensive Handgun

A six hour classroom and range program designed as instruction to civilian defensive handgun shooting. The course emphasis is placed on safe gun handling fundamentals and includes pistol nomenclature and function, firearm safety, basic marksmanship, loading / unloading and pistol care and maintenance. Once complete, students should feel comfortable progressing on to The Academies’ Advanced Defensive Handgun program.

Intermediate Handguns - Small Group

CLASSES WILL BE TEMPORARILY HELD AT OUR NEW LOCATION AT 6787 OAKBROOK BLVD, 1 BLOCK NORTH OF OUR ORIGINAL LOCATION, AT THE INTERSECTION OF OAKBROOK AND EMPIRE CENTRAL. SHOOTING PORTION WILL BE HELD AT A NEARBY LOCATION.

This Intermediate Handguns firearms training class will take students beyond basic handgun skills.

•Clearing jams
•Reloading quickly
•Actual Range Shooting
•Controlled pairs
•In-depth ammunition knowledge

This class is designed for the people who know the basics of handgun operation and want to take the next step. This is a one on one class with a private instructor. The first hour of class is spent in the classroom discussing handgun and ammunition knowledge and new techniques.
The second hour is spent on the range, doing actual shooting, learning and practicing the new techniques. After the class, the shooter will be able to handle and manipulate a handgun at a more advanced level.

Required Equipment:
50 rounds of ammunition. Price does not include ammunition but can be selected based on preference of student during course. Note: Can be purchased at the range for range shooting portion of the course. Two mags or speed loader for revolvers.

Prerequisites:
Intro to handguns or Women’s Basic or similar skill level

Techniques:
Trigger reset, chamber indicator, press checking, speed reload, tactical reload, jam clearing, double taps, accuracy vs. speed, one hand shooting

Low Light Defensive Handgun Course

This 8 hour course is designed as a building block to a recognized Basic Defensive Handgun Course. It will develop a foundation of defensive shooting skills incorporating a small hand held flashlight with your handgun for the purposes of identifying a threat, assessing the threat(s) and effectively engaging the threat(s). The student will exercise the various methods of Low Light Defensive Handgun Techniques and quickly gain experience, confidence and increase their skill level with the handgun / flashlight combination.

Handgun and 3 magazines with 250 rounds of ammunition, Flashlight with Spare Batteries (Small hand held “SureFire” type light), Holster and magazine pouch, wrap around eye protection, ear protection, weapon cleaning kit and lubrication.

Basic Defensive Handgun Course.

Women's Basic Pistol

CLASSES WILL BE TEMPORARILY HELD AT OUR NEW LOCATION AT 6787 OAKBROOK BLVD, 1 BLOCK NORTH OF OUR ORIGINAL LOCATION, AT THE INTERSECTION OF OAKBROOK AND EMPIRE CENTRAL. SHOOTING PORTION WILL BE HELD AT A NEARBY LOCATION.
This 6-hour course will teach the fundamentals of safe and accurate pistol shooting from a female certified firearms instructor. You do not need to own a firearm or have prior shooting experience to take this course. Are you uncomfortable around firearms? Do you wish to expand your knowledge and skills with firearms? If so, this course is for you, even if you never intend to own one. This class is also suitable for women who have some experience with firearms, but want to review the basic fundamentals. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to operate a firearm safely. If you own a personal firearm and wish to practice with that firearm, you may do so. Otherwise, a firearm will be provided to you as part of the class.
This class is limited to 8 people. We offer this in a small group setting so we can concentrate on each individual.

During this course, you will:
• Learn how to safely handle firearms
• Be able to identify different firearms and their primary parts
• Understand the mechanics of how a firearm functions
• Learn and practice the basics of grip,stance,sight alignment, sight picture,and trigger control
• Learn and practice the difference in revolver and semiautomatic firearms

Appropriate Attire for this course:
No open toed shoes
shorts, jeans, or capri pants are acceptable
polo style or crew neck t-shirts are acceptable(no v-neck or low cut)

*Ammunition is not included in this class. You will be required to purchase ammunition for this class. If you are using our firearm, you will be required to use only our ammunition in our firearms.
